“Something wicked this way comes…”

4 of the 6 playwrights of KCPT’s 2025-2026 Theater Lab

This April I was fortunate to work with Kansas City Public Theater once again! After making some significant rewrites to “Wicked Creatures,” I submitted it to KCPT and was selected to be a part of the 2025-2026 Theater Lab.

Synopsis: In this gothic horror, the monsters aren't only ghosts or beasts, but misogyny, ableism, and the denial of bodily autonomy--wholly human horrors. In pursuit of women's liberation, Sonya Graves, taking on the identity of her husband, entraps a young eugenicist for her experimentation. Archibald Worthington's only chances for escape is the "incorruptibly good" Emily Clearwater, who is cursed by supernatural visions of the future, and the crafty but foul-mouthed Clara Hollowell, a working girl with ambitions of her own.

This fantastic cast, under the skilled direction of Elaine Elizabeth Clifford, performed to a full house at the Black Box Theater in the West Bottoms. Actors Casey Jane and Jamie Lin Pratt reprised their roles from the 2019 Confluence Theater fully staged production of Wicked Creatures. It was a joy to see them inhabit these roles again!
